About Us

Boy Scout Troop 586 is dedicated to providing boys with opportunities to learn new skills, develop their leadership potential, and prepare for adulthood; leaving our troop and entering the community as young men of good character.

We meet at Sundown Elementary School (Ave. J-8, just west of 60th Street W) in Lancaster on Mondays at 7PM during the regular school year.  In summertime, we can be found at Lane Park (55th Street W & Ave L-6).

Our troop participates in a wide variety of activities - backpacking, skiing, rafting, etc. - depending on what our youth leadership determines to put on our activity calendar each year.

For summer camp, we typically alternate between Emerald Bay (odd numbered years) and Camp Whitsett or other local Scout camps (even numbered years).

We take a long-term backpacking trip each summer -  usually somewhere in the Sierras.  In 2016, we sent a crew to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

Twice a year, we offer Junior Leadership Training for all boys of 2nd Class rank and above and a New Scout Orientation for Scout and Tenderfoot ranks.

We spend 2-3 weekends a year at our cabin up on Piute Mountain, practicing Scout skills and having fun.

We serve the community through various service projects throughout the year including regularly placing flags on veterns' graves Memorial Day and Veterns Day, helping with food packaging and distribution to Antelope Valley families in need, and a wide variety of other projects that have been selected by our Eagles and future Eagles.
